Vielleicht sollten die Verantwortlichen in der Bundeswehr erstmal Eeben Barlow studieren, bevor sie Soldaten in Mali uneffektiv verheizen.
REVISITING THE TRINITY OF GRAVITY

The rise of Islamic-inspired anti-government forces in Africa remains a cause for concern, especially after the rapid collapse of Afghanistan. No doubt many of these forces in Africa, and elsewhere, will be emboldened and incentivised by the inability of foreign-trained forces to effectively counter them.
Whereas many lessons will no doubt be documented, they will serve no purpose unless they are acted on, doctrinal adjustments made accordingly—and approaches to training reassessed and implemented.
In my book ‘Composite Warfare: The Conduct of Successful Ground Force Operations in Africa’, I argued that the Clauswitzean Centre of Gravity had lost its relevance in the conflicts in Africa and that it ought to be substituted with a ‘Trinity of Gravity’ (ToG).
The ToG comprises the enemy force, its financing, and the local population. If two of ToG’s elements are neutralized, the third will inevitably collapse.
It is obvious the enemy forces must be attacked and destroyed by agile and manoeuvrable forces using a combination of unique TTTPs, and following a realistic, sustainable yet unpredictable, intelligence-driven campaign strategy and associated designs for battle.
Equally obvious is the fact that the enemy’s financing must be cut-off to bleed him into bankruptcy on the battlefield.
It is, however, the local population that is usually neglected and/or targeted and become collateral damage between the fighting parties. In the process, they are forced to choose sides, and it becomes a battle for their survival.
Whereas there are many drivers for anti-government sentiment, the primary driver is a lack of governance. It is the belief by the populace that they have been abandoned or marginalised by the government that swells the ranks of the anti-government forces. It also impacts morale and perceptions of serving members within the government forces as they are drawn from the wider populace.
But the local populations are seldom homogenous groupings of people. They vary in numerous ways, and differences include aspects such as tribal, ethnic, clan, religious, language, tradition, history, and ideology. Other factors such as education, poverty, healthcare and so on further impact the populace and their views of the government. Although not part of the environmental influences, the populace plays a major role in how the Area of Operations/combat landscape is shaped and how it ought to be assessed and viewed.
Failing to understand the circumstances of the populace, and how it has shaped them as a people, is a critical failing. Viewing the populace through the lens of either the East or the West is likewise a serious error. Treating them with arrogance and condescension is similarly a grave folly—as is trying to reshape society in someone else’s image. This merely breeds anger and resentment.
With good intentions, intervening forces often develop infrastructures for the local population without understanding what the people want. This is a wasteful expenditure and is viewed as such by the locals. In fact, it often serves to antagonise them and make them question which side they want to be on.
Creating local population casualties through ill-disciplined or uncontrolled actions merely drives an already despondent and frustrated population into the arms of a waiting enemy.
As Africa has shown, these failings by governments and their armed forces, whether domestic or foreign, are rapidly exploited by especially militant Islamist forces.
I, therefore, remain convinced that there is no longer a Centre of Gravity but a Trinity of Gravity—and the longer the ToG is ignored, the more militant Islamists and other anti-government forces will exploit it to our disadvantage.

Seit einiger Zeit wecken die Bodenschätze Mosambiks Begehrlichkeiten. Besonders bei den Russen, die die Ausplünderung Afrikas nicht alleine Amerikanern, Franzosen und Chinesen überlassen wollen. Für angebliche Söldnereinsätze ist ihre Wagner-Gruppe zuständig, die sich beim Kampf gegen islamistische Rebellen in der Provinz Cabo Delgado (große Gasvorkommen) im September/Oktober 2019 eine blutige Nase mit einigen Toten geholt haben. Die Gruppe Wagner trat einen „taktischen Rückzug“ an. Seitdem versuchen andere die Ausbeutung im Norden Mosambiks voran zu treiben.
Und natürlich wird einmal mehr Eeben Barlow und STTEP ins Gespräch gebracht oder gar beschuldigt, für die Russen die Drecksarbeit zu machen. Die Russen haben enge Beziehungen zur Regierung von Mosambik.

Hier und jetzt bezieht er Stellung gegen die Gerüchte und Verleumdungen, STTEP sei in Mosambik aktiv:
STTEP IS NOT IN MOZAMBIQUE
„There are currently false allegations and rumours swirling around that STTEP has deployed a ‘fighting force’ to Mozambique, along with helicopter gunships, and other military equipment.
This is merely another lie generated by an intelligence prostitute who currently resides in Mozambique and who acts as an ‘agent’ for several African and foreign intelligence services. (His name and location is known to me). Having been privy to some of his ‘intelligence reports’, it is very obvious that this person is not only a liar but also an ‘advisor’ whose intention is to misadvise governments for payment―something he is very well known for.
The current conflict in Cabo Delgado province is extremely serious and has, to date, already cost many lives. It has, furthermore, resulted in the government of Mozambique coming under massive domestic and regional pressure to end the conflict. It is also highly likely that this conflict will result in a regional spill-over as the Islamist forces gain momentum and become incentivised by tactical successes.
It remains the sovereign right and prerogative of the Mozambique government to appoint or use whoever they deem capable of assisting and supporting them in this conflict. However, the government there has NOT approached STTEP for advice, assistance or support of any nature.
It is possible that independent contractors who have worked with STTEP in the past may be in Mozambique. It is also very possible that con artists may be using STTEP’s name in order to secure a contract for themselves―this has happened with both Executive Outcomes and STTEP in the past.
It is therefore categorically stated that STTEP is NOT engaged in Mozambique; nor is the company recruiting men for deployment into Mozambique.

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,
als alter ARTE-Fan hat mich diese Doku über „Nigerias Terrorgruppe“ sehr erbost. Besonders, da sie in den ersten beiden Dritteln aus der weitgehend treffenden Analyse der Ursachen für das Erstarken Boko Harams getragen wurde. Leider wurde es versäumt darzustellen, dass das autoritäre Regime Nigerias von den Interessen internationaler Konzerne und denen von Europäern und Amerikanern errichtet wurde und gestützt wird. Dass ehemalige Kolonialmächte im Dienst der Konzerne autoritäre Staaten in Afrika ermöglichen und stützen, ist inzwischen eine Binsenweisheit.
Aber was mich wirklich erbost hat, war die Berichterstattung über angebliche militärische Erfolge gegen Boko Haram durch das nigerianische Militär zusammen mit französischer Waffenkraft und Truppen der Anrainer-Staaten.
Es wurde zwar weitgehend in der internationalen Presse verschwiegen, aber jeder, der sich nur ein wenig für Nigeria interessiert, weiß, dass es südafrikanische Söldner waren, die Boko Haram fast komplett besiegt hatten.
Diese 250 Söldner von STTEP (von der nigerianischen Regierung verpflichtet) beendeten den Terror von Boko Haram im Nordosten Nigerias innerhalb von vier Monaten (!)in 2015. Und dann erging es Ihnen und ihrem Oberbefehlshaber Eeben Barlow ähnlich wie der Söldnerfirma Executive Outcomes in Sierra Leone: Sie wurden auf Druck der Amerikaner und Nicht-afrikanischen Interessen entlassen und nach Hause geschickt.
Bei den Kämpfen gegen Boko Haram hatten sie einen Toten zu beklagen.
Kurze Zeit später kam der Terror von Boko Haram zurück und dehnt sich seitdem in West- und Zentralafrika aus.
Was dem bisher mit europäischer und amerikanischer Unterstützung militärisch entgegengesetzt wird, ist nicht sonderlich effektiv gemessen an der Leistung von STTEP.
Darüber wurde in Ihrer Dokumentation kein Wort verloren.
Bösartig könnte man diese Informationsunterschlagung als Fake News bezeichnen.

I find it amusing—but in a sad and pathetic way—that several ex-intelligence officers and journalists have now suddenly written to me stating how ‘sorry’ they a…re at what they did. 
Some even claimed they were under ‘orders’ to fabricate stories to put Executive Outcomes (EO) in a negative light and to ‘criminalise’ the company. Their self-confessed aim was to stop EO at all costs—or so their ‘orders’ claimed. To do this, they had to fabricate ‘intelligence’—and lie.
Never before have taxpayers-funded state assets been used so aggressively to vilify a private company in an effort to hide the duplicitous activities conducted by those in power.
The false media reporting and invented intelligence reports very sadly cost the lives of some of my men. But, it also cost the lives of many thousands of innocent non-participants, helped fuel the conflicts and, most importantly, hide the identities of those who were conducting illegal money-making activities and using the conflicts, the media and the intelligence services to help screen their activities.
I suspect some of them are now worried that I am also going to expose their duplicity in the revised edition of the Executive Outcomes book—and maybe I will do so with those who don’t come clean now—so this is their chance. Maybe they have a reason to be worried…
Fabricating lies was their choice. Exposing them for what they really are is now my choice.

Vorab diesen Beitrag von mir aus 2008, damit Leser, die das Sujet vielleicht nicht einschätzen können, informiert sind:
Angesichts der Situation in Afghaniststan und im Irak, wo sich hirngeschädigte Evangelisten und sadistischer Abschaum als Contractor tummeln (nicht alle sind verblödete Metzgergesellen von Blackwater; natürlich gibt es auch Ehrenmänner darunter), fällt es schwer, eine Lanze für private Militärorganisationen zu brechen. Aber man sollte auch nicht vergessen, dass erst seit der Ausformung der Nationalstaaten staatliche Armeen das Monopol auf Kriegsführung beanspruchen. Das Söldnertum kennen wir seit der Antike. s ist älter als Natonalarmeen. Die grosse Renaissance des Söldnertums hat natürlich auch mit dem Niedergang der Nationalstaaten zu tun. An ihre Stelle treten Konzerne, die Branchen vertreten, deren Gewinne höher sind als das Bruttosozialprodukt ganzer Kontinente (wie etwa Afrika). Schwachsinnsorganisationen wie die EU werden längst von der organisierten Kriminalität der Wirtschaftskonzerne (Molsanto) beherrscht. Aber ich schweife ab. Unten stehende Buchbesprechung schrieb ich vor ca. zwei Jahren für EVOLVER. Ich stehe trotz Blackwater & Co. dazu.
Stellen Sie sich folgende Situation vor, die seit den 90er Jahren so oder ähnlich irgendwo in Afrika täglich passiert: Vor Ihnen steht eine Horde Nackter mit Macheten und
Kalaschnikows. Einige haben sich Halloween-Horromasken übergezogen, andere Frauenperücken. Nicht alle sind nackt, manche tragen Brautkleider, andere Markenjeans, einige sind barfuss, andere haben Gummistiefel oder nagelneue Nike an. Aber alle haben abgeschnittene Ohren, Ketten aüs Menschenzähnen und Nasen oder anderen ju-ju-Krempel, sind von Ganja, Palmwein und Kokain zu bis über die Haarspitzen. Einige sind vielleicht grademal 12 Jahre alt und haben völlig kalte, erbarmungslose Augen. Diese wild grölenden Freaks hatten gerade Ihren Bruder dazu gezwungen, Ihre Mutter zu vergewaltigen, Ihrem Vater die Arme abgehackt und Ihre Schwester einer Massenvergewaltigung zugeführt. Ihrer schwangeren Tante hatten sie den Fötus aus dem Leib geschnitten und zuvor johlend auf das Geschlecht gewettet. Ihrem Onkel hatten Sie die Geschlechtsteile abgeschnitten, damit erstickt und anschließend den Kopf abgehackt, dem Ihre Großmutter die Brust geben soll. Links neben Ihnen steht Eeben Barlow mit ein paar Leuten der privaten Militärfirma Executive Outcomes. Sie haben ihre MPs entsichert und können dem Schrecken sofort ein Ende machen. Rechts neben Ihnen steht ein verschlagener Karnevalsclown in UNO-Uniform mit ein paar hundert Leuten. Der Clown hatte Ihnen bereits Ihr Geld abgenommen und wartet mit seiner betrunkenen Mannschaft darauf, dass er bei den weiteren Vergewaltigungen auch zum Zuge kommt. Barlow und seine Leute kosten 31 Millionen Dollar im Jahr, die Sie gestundet bekommen und durch Schürflizenzen Ihrer Diamantenminen absichern. Die UNO-Clowns kosten die Weltgemeinschaft, und damit jeden deutschen und österreichischen Steuerzahler, der kein Konto in Lichtenstein hat, 600 Millionen Dollar im Jahr. Außerdem plündern sie bei jeder Gelegenheit und schicken die aus Ihrem Haus rausgerissene Badewanne nach Hause, wo keiner weiß, wofür die gut sein soll nicht mal um Regenwasser aufzufangen, da sie ein Loch hat.
An wen würden Sie sich um Hilfe wenden?
Natürlich an Barlow und seine wütende Männer, die es gar nicht abwarten können, diesen Abschaum in die Hölle zu ballern.
Aber just in diesem Moment kommt Bill Clinton, der Erfinder des sexlosen Oralverkehrs und des nicht inhalierten Joints, zusammen mit dem Präsidenten der Weltbank vorbei und sagt Ihnen, Sie dürften sich auf keinen Fall mit dem Südafrikaner Barlow und seiner Söldnerclique einlassen, denn sonst gibts kein Geld mehr für unbrauchbare Waffen und die CIA kümmert sich darum, dass Sie entsorgt werden. Sie sollen sich gefälligst an den UNO-Clown wenden. Der wird schon dafür sorgen, dass die bösen Buben so was nicht mehr öfters als einmal die Woche veranstalten. Eine befriedigende Lösung und Präsident Bill ruft den bösen Jungs noch zu: „Wenn ihr damit nicht bald aufhört, schicke ich noch mehr UNO-Clowns, die auch was von eurem Kuchen abhaben wollen und außerdem liefere ich euren Feinden keine Waffen mehr. Dann könnt ihr sie ihnen nicht mehr abnehmen und müsst sie mit euren Blutdiamanten bei meinen Freunden teuer einkaufen.“
1995 stand Sierra Leone am Abgrund. Jahrelange Bürgerkriege hier und im Nachbarland Liberia hatten die Weltöffentlichkeit mit unvorstellbaren Gräueln versorgt. Zum Glück hat aber niemand richtig hin geguckt. Da konnte man ja auch nur mit den Schultern zucken,denn Kannibalismus und Verstümmelung gehören eben zur Folklore der Bimbos. Solange die Rohstoffe günstig und regelmäßig fließen – kein Problem.
In Ruanda hatte der amerikanische Präsident Clinton ja erfolgreich ein UN-Mandat verhindert. Die alte Hexe Albright hatte – ganz im Sinne ihres Meisters, der garantiert nicht der Laufbursche Clinton war, – sich geweigert von Völkermord zu reden (dann hätte die Weltgemeinschaft eingreifen müssen), sondern von der“Wiederaufnahme von Kampfhandlungen“. Da im Bimbokontinent sowieso nicht viel Konsum abzusetzen war (ganz im Gegenteil zum Balkan), konnte man sich auf die Sicherung der, wie so schön heißt, „natürlichen Ressourcen“ konzentrieren.
Barlow und seine Leute (70% davon Schwarze) waren ein bisschen blöde, kapierten das Spiel nicht richtig und fühlten sich auch noch als Afrikaner. Nur weil sie auf diesem Kontinent geboren waren und teilweise in fünfter und sechster Generation hier lebten.
Zuvor waren sie Angehörige der Streitmächte des Apartheid-Staates Südafrika gewesen. Dann hatte man sie rausgeschmissen, was verständlich war. Auch für Barlow. Statt aber Coups abzuziehen und sich in die Dienste blutrünstiger Konzerne zu stellen, gründete Barlow die „Söldner“-Firma Executive Outcomes, die ihre Dienste nur an von der Weltgemeinschaft legitimierte Regierungen (was immer das auch bedeutet) vermietete. In allergrößter Not wandte sich der Präsident von Sierra Leone, der gerade Kalif an Stelle des Kalifen geworden war, an Barlow. Die brutalen Rebellen der Revolutionary United Front (RUF) unter Führung des in Libyen ausgebildeten Schlächters Forday Sankoh hatte fast das ganze Land (kleiner als Bayern) erobert und standen vor der Hauptstadt Freetown (die sie dann 1999 einnahmen und ein Gemetzel veranstalteten, bei dem in wenigen Tagen 7000 Menschen getötet wurden und unzählige verstümmelt). Man schloss ein paar Verträge ab und Barlow organisierte in Windeseile den Einsatz von Executive Outcomes, die zuvor in Angola auf Seiten der kommunistischen Regierung die UNITA-Guerrilla, die Barlow und seine Leute als Mitglieder der südafrikanischen Streitkräfte mit Unterstützung der USA noch ausgebildet hatten, niedergeworfen hatte. Mit nicht mal 200 Leuten jagte er innerhalb von drei Wochen über 30.000 RUF-Rebellen an die Staatsgrenzen zurück, eroberte die Diamantenfelder und nahm der RUF damit ihre Einnahmequellen für neues Kriegswerkzeug. EO beendete das Abschlachten und brachte medizinische Versorgung und Lebensmittel ins Hinterland. Wo Barlows Männer auftauchten, wurden sie mit Freudengesänge der Einheimischen begrüßt. Die Presse der westlichen Industriestaaten schäumte vor Wut – bis auf wenige Ausnahmen. Kongo Müller erhebe wieder seine hässliche Fratze. Weiße Rassisten hätten engagierten Freiheitskämpfern ihre schönen Diamantenfelder abgenommen um sie nun selber auszubeuten. Überhaupt. So ginge es ja gar nicht, dass da wieder Kolonialismus durch – schluck – weiße Söldner revitalisiert würde (kein Wort, dass Barlows Truppe zu 70% aus Schwarzen bestand). Das Gezeter der Medienkellner, die ihre fetten Ärsche fernab der Gräuel in klimatisierten Hotels geparkt hatten und sich bei einer Krise von den Marines als erste rausfliegen ließen, zeigte Wirkung und Clinton, der später sogar mit dem Verstümmler und Kannibalen Sankoh telefonierte um ihm die Vizepräsidentschaft von Sierra Leone anzubitten, setzte die erstmals frei gewählte Regierung von Sierra Leone unter Druck: Executive Outcomes habe sofort zu verschwinden oder es setzt was.. Kaum waren Barlow und seine Jungs rausgeschmissen, kehrten die Rebellen zurück und das Massakrieren fing von vorne an. Aus purer Wut über ihre Niederlage jetzt noch einen Zacken schärfer.
Executive Outcomes wendete sich neuen Aufgaben zu. Mal mehr, mal weniger erfolgreich. Aber immer begleitet von einem Medienecho, dass Barlow gehörig zusetzte. Nie recherchierten die angeblichen Journalisten, stattdessen gab es nur Gesinnungsgeschwafel über böse weiße Söldner. Beifall kam nur von der falschen Seite, von Faschisten, die sich bei Executive Outcomes bewarben und abgelehnt wurden. 1999 wurde EO aufgelöst. Im Nachhinein hängte man EO an, die Firma sei die Blaupause für all die neuen privaten Militärfirmen, die täglich im Irak ihren Ruf ruinieren. Aber EO hatte nichts mit diesen amerikanischen Metzgereien zu tun. Um mit den vielen Gemeinheiten, Lügen und falschen Behauptungen abzurechnen, hat sich Eeben Barlow hingesetzt und das voluminöse Buch EXECUTIVE OUTCOMES – AGAINST ALL ODDS geschrieben. Es ist ein überaus sachliches Buch (auch wenn Barlows verständliche Wut auf die Journaille gelegentlich durchbricht), voller Dokumente und unglaublichen Detailreichtum. Es gibt keine billigen Schockeffekte, kein Ich-war-dabei-Pathos, nur Aufklärung. Das brutale Kriegsgeschehen wird nicht ausgespart, aber auch nicht als Splatterzeugs aufbereitet. Barlow stellt die Fakten klar. Und wer sich erhaben über sogenannte Verschwörungstheorien wähnt, sollte mal die hier geschilderten Hintergründe genau studieren.
Einige, wenige Journalisten haben sich bei ihm entschuldigt für ihre ehrlosen Artikel. Präsident Clinton hat sich nie bei den Bürgern von Sierra Leone entschuldigt, die Opfer der RUF wurden nachdem er dafür gesorgt hat, dass EO aus dem ;Land geworfen war und die Massenmörder mit der Operation „No Living Thing“ ihre „Kampfhandlungen wieder aufnahmen“.(Inzwischen hat sich Clinton entschuldigt; damit ist der Fall erledigt und Hände und Arme wachsen nach.)
Barlow hatte im Auftrag einiger UNOkraten (sie trafen sich mit ihm in Deutschland; alles ausführlich im Buch geschildert) einen Eingreifplan für EO in Ruanda erarbeitet um dem Völkermord ein Ende zu machen. Schnell arbeiteten seine Leute Logistik und Strategie aus, dann kam ein lapidares Telefonat: Man sei nicht mehr interessiert. Und das Morden ging erst richtig los. Überflüssig zu erwähnen, dass EO einen Bruchteil von dem gekostet hätte, was die UNO nur an Bürokratie für und mit Ruanda aufwendete. Völkermord wegen political correctness. Prinzipien sind alles.

Ich hatte Eeben Barlow gesagt, dass EO oder STTEP ein PR-Problem haben, da sie vielfach geheim operieren müssen. Und wenn dann etwas rauskommt, wird in den Medien sofort wieder das Klischee vom Dog of War geschwungen. Eeben sieht das anders, aber er äußert sich hier auch zu anderen Aspekten, die wir mit unserem eurozentrischen Weltbild gerne übersehen oder verdrängen:

I would disagree with you in a sense regarding PR but let me state from the outset that I am not anti-West nor anti-East – I am pro-Africa as this is the continent where I live and the continent where I will die.
I – and EO before and STTEP now – have always said that we are willing to work with any foreign government that aims to secure an end to conflicts and destabelisation in Africa. To date, and not unsurprising to us, we have had no takers, despite our record of never failing in a contract and saving thousands of innocent lives in the process.
EO suffered what was most probably one of the largest disinformation campaigns that any private company at that time had to endure. The reason was that it (EO) was seen as a threat to foreign interests as well as a threat to the foreign-sponsored proxy forces and the policies of the destabelisation of Africa. All I ever asked for – and still ask for – is that the selected snippets of ‘intelligence’ that are fed to the media be proven. But when I ask, that specific piece of ‘intelligence’ is quickly ignored and a new ‘snippet’ surfaces and the cycle repeats itself.
The political and economic destabelisation of Africa was, at that time, very high on the list of foreign objectives as it was intended to ensure foreign control over strategic resources. Sadly, not much has changed. This very short-sighted view and nefarious approach to Africa remains today.
The threat EO posed (and later STTEP) is that it was/is contracted by African governments to assist them in stabilizing conflict areas to enable them to apply governance. This does not sit well with some beyond Africa’s shores and several African governments – and NGOs – have told us that they have been threatened by foreign governments with ‘dire consequences’ if they dare to use STTEP. Apparently, African governments are not allowed to contract Africans.
This just goes to show that even African governments, despite their many perceived and/or real faults, are not considered important or legitimate enough to determine their own futures if it clashes with the foreign policy of a foreign government. It is no longer an African government’s prerogative to decide who can advice, train and mentor its army. This decision is apparently only allowed to be taken by a non-African government. It therefore also shows that as soon as the foreign interests of a foreign power clash with the national interests and vital interests of an African government, ‘regime change’ by all means fair and foul are called for. The same applies to Middle Eastern governments.
This extremely ill-thought out strategy is one of the major causes of the immigrant flow – and along with it the associated terrorism – into Europe we are now witnessing. We need to consider the mess Libya, Nigeria, Somalia, Sudan, etc, including Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, etc, to name but a few have become. These ill-conceived conflicts have not only damaged the economies of the partaking coalition countries but they have destroyed entire countries and communities and given birth to simmering anger, hatred and fanaticism that is about to boil over into terror acts, to say nothing of the thousands left homeless and the sea of immigrants making their way to Europe. And it shows no sign of letting up.

Taking a step back, EO had no recourse to the media as those journalists who reported on so-called military matters – and I named several of them in my book – were mainly under control of the intelligence services. Their stories were taken as ‘fact’ despite never being checked or verified and in some instances they were simply fabricated lies and given to the media to publish after already been written by an intelligence agency. (I wrote about this in my book and not one journalist was willing to sue me for ‘slander’ as they knew I had information on their intelligence activities as agents-of-influence and that I would expose that all in open court).
The sustained media attack on EO was launched from both the domestic media as well as the international media and it fed off its own cycle of disinformation and momentum. The bigger the lie, the more believable it became. EO’s media briefings were simply ignored and were considered to be ‘not in the public interest’. Ironically, disinformation and lies are still considered to be in the public’s interest but truth is not. How silly is that?

What has changed is that STTEP now has a voice through social media that EO never had. This has allowed STTEP to give its side of the story – something EO was never able or allowed to do. Also, governments in Africa have finally realised that they were misled and lied to about EO and subsequently STTEP. They speak to me on a very regular basis and express their alarm and concern at what is happening and the threats made against them. But, it is easy to dress up lies as ‘facts’ and ‘intelligence’ if you control the media. Some African governments have even told me that they have been warned that we are planning coups against them!
All we have ever asked is that the claims and allegations against us be proven and not taken at face value. After all, despite the many media and intelligence claims that EO/STTEP had and has been paid with oil concessions, diamond concessions and so forth, all have been proven false and no proof of this ‘fact’ has ever been furnished. The reasons why are simple: You can never twist a lie into fact forever. I would also have great difficulty in paying my men ‘per barrel of oil a month’ or ‘… diamonds per month’ – something no journalist even bothers to contemplate.
Also, unlike many foreign-government contracted PMCs today, neither EO nor STTEP have EVER been guilty of murder, prostitution, smuggling of arms and ammunition, child-trafficking, resource smuggling etc. And we have had many investigations launched into our activities and our person. We have never harmed the local people in an area, damaged or stolen their property, raped their woman and children, created refugee problems or displaced civilians, destroyed their crops or created any other type of collateral damage. We are contracted to END a problem, not keep it artificially alive for as long as possible so that a stranglehold over an under-siege government can be tightened. Every contract we have undertaken has been brought to a speedy conclusion in a very short space of time. But this is apparently not a good thing and has made us the ‘bad guys’. Those that consistently fail – either through incompetence or on purpose – and create even bigger problems in Africa whilst supporting the unseating of governments – well, they are apparently the ‘good guys’.
STTEP is also seen as a major threat to the foreign government policies that are driven by resource greed and destabelisation. On the other hand, STTEP is perceived by African governments as an ally as not only do we train and mentor their armies, we also, at times, provide them with political advice. The local people in towns and villages cheer us when we enter their areas. In these endeavors, we have lost men who died upholding our undertakings and our word to a client-government. However, STTEP remains under attack by foreign powers who actively yet covertly support rampant conflict, chaos and terrorism whilst openly acting as though they wish to stop it. Stopping it is the last thing on their minds as it is all that remains to ensure their policy of destabelisation and economic sabotage can be realised. But the unintended consequences of this is that it is now spilling over into Europe as well.
When we engage with a government, we look at which foreign country shouts the most and the loudest at our engagement and then we know exactly who is actually supporting the destabelisation or proxy forces. It is very telling when we destroy proxy forces…those that express their concerns at us helping African governments expose their agendas, time and time again.
We are engaged in a war of perception against those that encourage destabelisation and support proxy forces. No amount of PR will help us in this battle.
As an example, a senior ex-SADF counter-intelligence officer under the control/pay of a foreign intelligence agency is ‘investigating’ STTEP/myself – for what we are still unsure of. What we do know is that they will, in the near future, expose their hand. It is ironic that this man was selected to act on their behalf – one hopes with some honesty and integrity – as this was something he was unable to display whilst serving in the SADF.

Martin Daniken hat mich mehrfach gefragt, was Barlow zu verschiedenen Themen denkt. Hier nun einige Antworten, die unseren eurozentrischen Blickwinkel erweitern.
Africa is the battleground of a war aimed at seizing control over its resources. The war is being waged on a military level and on an infrastructure/investment level. Both approaches ultimately aim at getting governments into a position of weakness. The West and the US in particular is opting for the militarization approach whilst the Chinese are adopting a more passive approach in terms of investment and resource extraction. It is however the military level that has seen the rise of proxy forces and other anti-government forces and thus created massive internal instability, resulting in IDPs and refugees. The Chinese investment model has paid off for the Chinese and has increased their influence dramatically. Of course, they do have problems from time to time but in general they abide by their agreements and do not interfere in the internal politics of a country. African governments have taken note of this. African governments have also taken note of the chaos the military approach is causing and the collateral damage across numerous fronts and this is resulting in a groundswell of anti-West and in particular anti-US sentiments in many African countries.

The Russians have been slowly reassessing Africa and have started their return back to Africa. Given that the Russians and China have working agreements on numerous levels, it is conceivable that they will form joint-ventures with Chinese firms where necessary. Traditionally though, the Russians have also not interfered at the political levels although they were always supportive of anti-government forces that were malleable enough to be used to achieve then-Soviet aims. I suspect they will focus on military equipment sales as their equipment has been proven in Africa and is known to work here.

Ich kann das Geseiere zu Flüchtlingen nicht mehr hören!
Jetzt haben sich die Medien also auf das Gutmenschen-Deutschland eingeschossen. Nachdem sie sich monatelang anhören mussten, dass ihre dauernde und dämliche Berichterstattung über rechte Übergriffe (was für ein schöner Euphemismus) nur Nachahmer erzeugt – schnell also die Kehrtwende, Nun sehen wir im Fernsehen also nur noch gebrechliche alte Syrer und Mütter mit süßen Kindern, die sich überlegen, ob sie nicht besser wieder nach „Hause“ fliehen, bevor sie von hilfswütigen willkommentrunkenen Deutschen zu Tode geknutscht werden.
Hinzu kommt die übliche Dämlichkeit der Wirtschaftsheloten, die sich Volksvertreter nennen: Was für eine Chance für das überalternde Deutschland sind doch die Flüchtlinge! Künftige Retter des Arbeitsmarktes.
Auf was für einen Arbeitsmarkt sollen sie denn? Ihre einzige Funktion ist das Heer der Arbeitslosen zu vergrößern, damit die Unternehmen die Löhne und Sozialleistungen weiterhin drücken können. So lange es kein Umlagen orientiertes Sozialsystem gibt, werden die systemimmanenten Krisen zunehmen, brutaler und die organisierte Kriminalität (noch immer die reinste Form der Marktwirtschaft) wachsen. Wie sieht eigentlich der Vergleich aus zwischen Krisenjahren und denen mit Vollbeschäftigung? Wie lange wird medial noch diese Marktwirtschaftsphrase gedroschen? Mindestens so lange wie die mit der Chancengleichheit (die nun wohl auch für die Vertriebenen und Flüchtlinge herhalten muss).
Jeder ist seines Glückes Schmied (deutsches Sprichwort).
Vergessen wir aber nicht bei aller Freude über Flüchtlinge, die nach Deutschland wollen um dort zu genesen, die bösen Wirtschaftsflüchtlinge, vorzugsweise aus Ländern, die von der EU und der Nato auf dem Balkan benutzt werden. Dabei haben wir doch selber reichlich Wirtschaftsflüchtlinge: Weite Teil Ostdeutschlands sind nur noch von Rentnern und Rechtsradikalen bewohnt, weil die Jungen aus wirtschaftlichen Gründen nach Bayern fliehen. Und dort treiben sie zum Ungemach der vermeintlichen Urbevölkerung auch noch die Münchener Mieten ins unbezahlbare. Pfui.
Vorbildlich geführte Unterkunft für Verantwortungs-Flüchtlinge.
Wenn der dritt- oder viertgrößte Waffen-Exporteur der Welt Flüchtlinge mit Bahnhofsfesten begrüßt, kann man sich kaum der Rührungstränen erwehren. Einfach zu lieb. Seit Monaten lallen die Politik-Idioten ausschließlich über die Symptome der weltweit wachsenden Flüchtlingsheere. Kein Wort darüber, wie man selbst für die Ursachen sorgte und weiterhin sorgt. Kein Wort darüber, wie Entwicklungshilfe und IWF ganze 3.Welt-Länder durch Diktate von Monokulturen in den Abgrund getrieben haben und weiterhin treiben, kein Wort über die gezielte Destabilisierung großer Regionen, damit die Konzerne dort für Klimpergeld (das an die von ihnen installierten Satrapen geht) weiterhin die Bodenschätze ausbeuten können), kein Wort darüber, dass Gier zwangsläufig Völkermorde erzeugen muss.
Greifen wir nur einen Jahresprofit von Heckler & Koch, KraussMaffei und Rheinmetall ab: damit könnten wir allen von uns mitzuverantwortenden Flüchtlingen nette Eigenheime in Ostdeutschland oder sonst wo hinstellen. Man könnte auch den Wohnraum-Spekulanten den Leerstand wegnehmen (in den Emiraten stehen 70% der Neubauten leer, werden aus Spekulationsgründen nicht mal vermietet; in Mumbai sind es 30%). Oder man sorgt für eine militärische Lösung für das, was man militärisch und politisch verbockt hat. Dass das möglich ist, haben Eeben Barlow und STTEP hinreichend in Nigeria bewiesen… Ach, was bin ich doch für ein Dummerchen: Kriege zu führen ist ja bekanntlich profitabler, als Kriege zu gewinnen. Wir dürfen ja keine Arbeitsplätze in der Export orientierten Rüstungsindustrie gefährden.
Flüchtlinge bewundern Ursachen-Gerätschaft.
Aber vielleicht findet ja einer dieser soziopathischen Banker die Lösung, wie man Entrechtete und Vertriebene an die Börse bringt. Wenn man einen Weg findet, wie man aus den Ärmsten noch einen Profit rauspressen kann, dann wird das Interesse der Deutschen an Flüchtlingen über das Wochenendgeknutsche der Gutmenschen noch weit hinaus gehen. Und dann sorgen auch künftige Shareholder des Elends dafür, dass die Politik gegen Rechts vorgeht, da diese das Investitionsklima stören.
Vielleicht könnte man die Flüchtlinge auch privatisieren. Privatisierung ist ein höheres Gut als Menschenrechte, wie Millionen zufriedener Bahnkunden sicher bestätigen. Gegen eine kleine Aufwandsentschädigung vom Staat, könnten Privathaushalte geeignete Flüchtlinge etwa als Sexsklaven, Hausmädchen oder „Allgemeinsklaven“ übernehmen. Das schafft auch Platz in den Massenheimen und würde zur Integration beitragen.

Colonel Eeben Barlow ist Südafrikaner; ein stolzer Afrikaner, der seinen Kontinent liebt und nicht mit ansehen kann, wie er durch die Gier, der Rücksichtslosigkeit und der Verachtung seitens wirtschaftlicher Interessen des Westens und seiner Satrapen vor die Hunde geht. Das macht ihn höchst unbeliebt bei Amerikanern, Franzosen und anderen europäischen Staaten, die vom Chaos in Afrika profitieren (und sich dann über die paar Flüchtlinge aufregen, deren Lebensgrundlagen sie im „Schwarzen Kontinent“ systematisch zerstört haben und weiterhin zerstören). Seit den 1990er Jahren kam Barlow diesen Interessen immer wieder in die Quere. Er stoppte den Völkermord in Sierra Leone, bis die Clinton-Regierung dafür sorgte, dass man ihn und Executive Outcomes rausschmiss. Sein erstmal von der UN angeforderter Plan zur Beendigung des Völkermordes in Ruanda wurde kurzerhand vom Tisch gefegt, was zu jahrelangen Massakern und der Destabilisierung des Ostkongos führte. Ich könnte weitere Beispiele aufführen. Letztes war sein erfolgreiches Eingreifen in Nigeria: Innerhalb von drei Monaten war Boko Haram fast vernichtend geschlagen. Und wieder hat man gerade noch den Stecker rausgezogen und jetzt „freuen“ wir uns über die erfolgreiche Rückkehr der islamistischen Menschenschlächter.

Seine Profession ist der Krieg, das Töten von Menschen, die übelste Grausamkeiten gegen Zivilsten begangen haben oder begehen. Tausende Afrikaner leben noch, weil Barlow dafür gesorgt hat, dass sie nicht abgeschlachtet wurden. Weil er gnadenlos seine militärische Brillanz und Schlagkraft gegen Terrororganisationen eingesetzt hat, deren Strategie aus Verstümmeln, Foltern, Vergewaltigen und sadistischem Töten bestand. Seine Bilanz ist tadellos. Seine Feldzüge kennen keine Kollateralschäden. Aber dafür wird er gerne in den Mainstreammedien beschimpft. Die beklagen seine Erfolge (die meist unterschlagen werden) als Wüten rassistischer weißer Söldner, das letzte Überbleibsel der Apartheid.
Da kann er so oft er will an den gesunden Menschenverstand appellieren: „Does anyone with half a brain cell really think an African government will invite a bunch of racists into their country to advise and support them in a conflict?“ Oder man verschweigt ihn ganz: In den deutschen Medien findet man seinen Namen nur ganz selten. Äußerst marginal wurde dort im ersten Vierteljahr darüber berichtet, dass der Erfolg der Nigerianer eventuell mit der Anwesenheit von STTEP zu tun haben könnte. Nie wurde berichtet, dass das Comeback von Boko Haram vielleicht etwas mit der Abwesenheit von STTEP zu tun haben könnte.
Hier nun aus meinem Interview exklusive Aussagen von dem Mann, der für westliche Politiker und Konzernmanager ein fürchterlicher Söldnerführer ist, der afrikanische Interessen vertritt. Für die geretteten Opfer in den Bürgerkriegen, in die er eingriff, ist er ein Held, dem sie ihr Überleben verdanken. Er ist ein afrikanischer Held und die Hautfarbe spielt nicht die geringste Rolle.
Buhari sacked Nigeria’s military chiefs. How do you feel about it? A clearance sale? And do they have real personal alternatives?
EB: I cannot comment on issues related to the Nigerian military high command. After all, those are decisions which we have no influence on or don’t know the deeper reasons of.
In the three months you and STTEP were active in Nigeria, it seemed that Boko Haram had been beaten. After you and STTEP left, Boko Haram made a bloody comeback. How could that happen?
EB: We warned the Nigerian Army (NA) that unless Boko Haram is annihilated, they will make a return. Boko Haram (BH) was able to flee certain areas with their weapons and equipment. We also warned the NA that BH would intensify their terror campaign and that we ought to retain the initiative, maintain the momentum of operations, hunt them down and annihilate them.
The Nigerians were advised by a foreign government that we are merely trying to get a contract extension and that they must not listen to us. Well, they took the advice given to them and the result is BH have returned. Ironically, this also happened in Angola and Sierra Leone in the EO days. Bad advice given freely always has an aim—and it is seldom to the benefit of the recipient.

Are the West-Europeans and the USA really interested in destroying Boko Haram or IS? It is hard to understand that French and US-soldiers are not able or willing to fight them effectively. We know of their bases in Africa and their power. Or exist political and economic reasons for keeping the region destabilized?
EB: No. These groups have numerous bases in African countries that can be targeted and destroyed. Whatever happened to “Intelligence collection”? This threat did not develop overnight. Why was it not identified in its early stages and neutralised? With the modern technology available (UAVs, ELINT, etc) why can they not be located? Or do they suddenly have better technology that everyone else? This is not a so-called counter-insurgency (COIN) campaign.
People must think beyond this fallacy. Foreign troops seem unable to understand their threat and the geo-political implications. They follow a doctrine that is not suited to the threat or the terrain. They are incorrectly trained and appear to be unable to adapt to the operational environment. A coherent strategy seems to be lacking. Political and military will appears to be suspect or even absent. With this in mind, it appears that the desire to destroy these groups is not there yet the foreign soldiers partaking in these conflicts are usually blamed for the failure. Soldiers do what they are trained and told to do. If the mission is unclear or misunderstood and not driven by political and military will then of course it will fail.
With the above in mind, one can only conclude that there is a deeper reason for giving these groups the freedom they have to operate and terrorise—and it has a political and economic reason. But the problem reaches further than that: In Syria, the Free Syrian Army (which doesn’t exist!!) is trained and supported by the West. When they cross the border into Iraq, they are ISIL!! Did the consequences of a total collapse of Libya in terms of the spread of weapons not enter anyone’s minds? It was so obvious yet was either never considered or considered and ignored.

What are the main differences in fighting the RUF and fighting Boko Haram?
EB:Any armed anti-government force (AGF) that utilises a combination of manoeuvre, guerilla and terror tactics with the intent of achieving a violent overthrow of the existing political system—regardless of the civilian casualties they cause—must be stopped as there can be no stability, development and prosperity as long as these forces continue with their activities. Both RUF and BH had/have some form of regional/international support so they had/have access to weapons, training and support. Destroying them requires a clear end-result, realistic operational designs and tactics that are applicable to the terrain.
The jungles of Sierra Leone are vastly different to the desert areas of north-eastern Nigeria. This requires a fundamental change in approach and tactics. So, very different tactics were used against RUF than against BH. Regardless of the enemy being fought, terrain dictates tactics and requires a flexible doctrine that can be rapidly adapted and adjusted to suit the operational environment. Our ultimate aim when we are asked to assist a government is to end the conflict as rapidly as possible and not drag it out for years as we see some PMCs/foreign armies doing in Africa.
How do you judge the strategic and tactic skills of Boko Haram?
EB: The problem with many of these conflicts is that the rebels are often ex-soldiers who have received some form of training, either by a foreign army or their own army. So they have an idea of strategy and tactics. Plus, having aligned themselves with Daesh (IS) they are receiving training, support and advice from this group. From a national army’s point-of-view, the longer they fight such a group, the more they teach the enemy how they operate, allowing BH to know what the army will do and how it will react when under attack. That is why we adopt such a radical approach in every country we work in. However, their strategy is usually based on a desire to change the government and their tactics to instil fear in the populace to support them. To achieve this, they resort to a merciless terror campaign.
However, when they are faced with a military unit that operates in a radically different manner and exploits what the enemy views as their advantage, they are thrown off-balance and are usually unable to withstand strikes against their forces. This upsets their tactics as they no longer have an advantage and then their discipline collapses.

As I´ ve learned, Nigeria is a state eaten up deep in corruption. Makes it intelligence more difficult? For my knowledge, in Nigeria you had no such group like the Kamajors to count on.
EB: With the blessing of the government we are working with, we establish our own intelligence network but liaise very closely with their intelligence agencies. This allows us to develop our own intelligence picture and plan operations accordingly. In Nigeria, we were given Nigerian army troops (Special Forces) to train and integrate into a unit that would take the fight to BH and disrupt them as much as possible. This unit was called “72 Mobile Strike Force” and was an integral part of the NA and was attached to a specific Nigerian Army Division. After being trained by us, they realized that we are not setting them up to fail—as all of the foreign training they have received to date did. When they saw that we are willing to share hardships with them, they became a very effective fighting unit and were blindly loyal to us. This however is not unusual for us as it happens everywhere we work. Having a group like the Kamajors had its advantages but it is not such groups that turn the tide in a conflict although they provide an advantage. It is dedicated, hard and mission-specific training coupled to political and military will that leads to success.

Did you and STTEP cooperate with PILGRIMS in Nigeria?
EB: Pilgrims is an independent Nigerian service provider company we first met in December 2014. They provide private security to companies and visitors to Nigeria and are very good at what they do. Their support to us was to enable our speedy entry into and departure from Nigeria (essentially a “meet and greet” service) and to assist us through the intricacies of immigration and customs. Angola, Sierra Leone, Kony, Nigeria… Maybe I´m paranoid, but it seems to me, that there is a force (USA?) which don´ t want native African success in general and South African success in particular. Especially by security forces not controlled by Americans or Europeans. Outsourcing to PMCs seems no problem for British or US (in spite of very bad press-feedback) but very unpopular if it goes to African companies.
EB: You are very correct as we have seen this happening across Africa. An unstable Africa is of more value to some foreign governments than a stable, prosperous and secure Africa. A unified and strong Africa is a potential threat to them on numerous levels. A foreign (Western) government has even threatened African governments and private corporations with dire consequences if they use STTEP! This in itself is proof of the duplicity we witness on an almost daily basis. US and European private military companies, sponsored by their governments, are “PMCs”. We are “mercenaries”.
We work for—and are paid by—the African government that contracts us. Foreign PMCs are paid for by their home governments and work to further the interests of their sponsor governments. We work to further the interests of the government that contracts us. Obviously, this is seen by some in the international as a bad thing. But has no one ever raised the question: Given that foreign armies have these so-called partnership and training programmes,
WHAT have they trained these African armies in?? Nigeria has been the beneficiary of years of foreign military training and they were very obviously set up to fail if they had to fight a conflict or war. Why and how else could BH achieve what they achieved? As a senior foreign army officer also said to me years ago when discussing African armies: “We train them badly in case we have to fight them”. Why is it that when an African government decides to use an African company with a record of success, they are attacked by the international community but when they use a foreign PMC, they are said to be working to achieve peace and stability? Isn’t it strange to anyone that the first to shout at us entering a conflict to end it are certain foreign governments and their NGOs? Of course, some NGOs thrive on conflict as that is how they make their money. Those NGOs that engage in intelligence collection and incitement of the populace endanger the real NGOs that really want to make a difference.

Is this „white South African dogs of war“-cant still a theme in Africa? Or is it only a beloved stereotype for western medias?
It is an ironic statement given that most of our men are black Africans and not white Africans. We view ourselves as Africans and where we work in Africa, we are seen and treated as Africans despite the fact that some of us are “palefaces”. However, the “white South African dogs of war” and “racist” label is always hung around our necks by the international community and its media as they need to try to discredit us as much as possible and paint the picture that we are out of control racist South Africans running around killing and murdering the populace.
We do not invade or occupy countries, we do not overthrow governments, we do not commit crimes, we do not assist both sides in a conflict, we cause no collateral damage, we have no hidden agendas, we do not try to force change in their political systems and so on. When villagers hear we are coming, they line the streets in their thousands to cheer and shout their thanks to us.
But there is an attempt to make sure we are discredited just as they tried in Angola and Sierra Leone to name two other countries and to make sure the conflict never ends—or that we (South Africans) end it. African governments have long seen past the dishonesty of the western governments, media and scholars when it comes to us. Does anyone with half a brain cell really think an African government will invite a bunch of racists into their country to advise and support them in a conflict? But, we only need to look at which country’s government and media shouts the loudest to know which side they are supporting in a conflict and whose foreign interests are based on creating chaos and instability. Equally ironic is that we are always “mercenaries” and everyone one else (US/Europe) are PMCs. The reason for this hypocrisy is very obvious but fortunately, African governments have now starting seeing past this western duplicity.

How do you judge a federation of Al-Shabaab, Boko Haram (maybe North-Sudan) and IS? Are they able to cooperate in far more dangerous way than by now?
EB: This alignment has a huge propaganda and perception value to these groups. It gives them access to the media, weapons, support, finances, etc and also enhances their image amongst the non-radical Muslims. If one looks at their intended caliphate, it extends across Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Egypt, Libya, Mali, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Sudan. Somalia and so forth. With a coalition of more than 30 countries waging war on Daesh in Syria/Iraq, why have they not been able to destroy this grouping of fanatics? Does this pose a threat? Very definitely as it is apparent that a form of ink-spot strategy is being followed.
Ironically, a lot of the oil resources fall within this co-called caliphate as well. This wide alignment also allows entry in European/US countries by jihadists with very different nationalities.
This will soon pose a major problem to the West. We have tried to explain this but no one really wants to listen to us. After all, we are only dumb Africans so what do we really know?
